Object Gratifying to Handle
Created a smooth, refined piece through working with tools, including files, rasps, power sanders, and sandpaper.
Project Brief.
Object Gratifying to Handle was a quarter-long project where I was tasked simply with making a block of wood gratifying to handle.
Learnings.
Being able to explore the process of designing through consistent use of physical intuition led to developing a deeper understanding of wood as a material and basic woodworking techniques.
Process.
Selected this piece of wood for its unique coloring! Began rounding the corners with files and rasps.
Continued to shape the object. Began adding indentations that would make it gratifying in the hand of anyone.
Final object, sanded to 2000 grit, in hand.
